Don't tighten the screws completely at this step, but rather after all the frame has been assembled; leave them loose. It also helps if you can slide the screws from side to side in the slots (this may require you to cut out some paint with a razor blade or other tool). This will help in squaring up the whole assembly towards the end of the build.
It's easier to insert the makerslide into the Y axis plates before you put the end plate on. As an alternative to steps 11 and 12:
- open up the vwheel spacing (rotate the eccentric nuts so the top/bottom wheels are far apart).
- Insert the makerslide lengths into the wheels.
- Position the entire gantry assembly close to the edge of your workbench with the makerslide overhanging the edge of the bench.
- Bolt end-plate on.
