Buildlog.net Shield (rev3) – Limit Switch Wiring

Buildlog.net Shield (rev3) – Limit Switch Wiring

Are the right Arduino digital pens available (not in use)? If so, what would the best way to connect them since they are buried by shield? I could solder them from the top but that’s kind of crude. Thanks.

You could replace the pins on the shield with "proper" Arduino shield pins, the stackable ones with a socket on top and a long pin on the bottom. They do block some of the airflow under the drivers, but they allow you to plug things in. Or you can use an intermediate shield that gives you access, such as the ScrewShield. Or just solder them, we're not judging. (I would solder them.)

Thanks for the input. Looks like a big job to de-solder the existing pins and I may damage the board. The screwshield appears to be the minimum pain option. Thanks again.

After much agonizing on how connect the limit switches to a Buildlog.net Rev 3 shield, I finally decided to solder a connector arrangement directly to the board. I used 24-gauge solid wire as the male pins that fit into a standard R/C connector. The pins are bent downward, making the installation relatively clean.

The image shown is for digital pins 9,10 and 11. A similar arrangement was incorporated on the other side of the board for 5 volts and ground.

I like it -- a clean solution.

Agreed. A good retrofit for the for the rev3 board.
Build it better than it was built for you. And give permission for the next guy to do the same. That's how Open Source works.
